Job Description

About This Role: We currently have four high schools in New Orleans and one high school in Baton Rouge, and we are hiring Social Studies teachers in both cities. Teachers must be deeply committed to creating a classroom culture where 100% of your students are engaged in rigorous lessons aligned to the college ready bar.

Our Approach to Social Studies: Our social studies classes are grounded in reading, writing and talking about primary sources, with our social studies curricula written by CA teachers to meet state standards and to allow for culturally responsive instruction of our students. It is constantly revised to better meet our students’ needs.

At CA, we offer the following social studies courses: World Geography, World History, U.S. History, A. P. U. S. History, and Seminar in Social Justice (SSJ). SSJ is our interdisciplinary and project-based approach to Civics in which students work in teams to research issues in their communities and propose solutions to those issues to leaders in the community. As part of their coursework, students also complete an independent research project.

Teacher Development at Collegiate Academies: At CA, our teachers never stop learning and never stop growing. Here’s how:

  • Our approach to teacher development at CA is focused on individual goals and growth combined with a high degree of individualized support.
  • Every teacher has a coach, and you will collaboratively, with your coach, create your growth goals and determine the plan that will see you hit those goals.
  • There are some things in common with other teachers at your school -- school goals, school priorities, school-based PD, etc. -- but it is in your relationship with your coach where you will translate those things into what you specifically need to meet those goals yourself.
  • You will also grow year over year as an expert in your content in collaboration with your peers across the network through content-specific professional development and data investigations.
  • There is an additional layer of support for first year teachers called the CA Teacher Residency (CATR), which is an intensified, pre-service and coaching plan to develop you in the skills that we have seen that make rookie teachers most successful in their first year at CA.
