General Description
The New Orleans Center for Creative Arts's Academic Program, the Academic Studio, is an innovative teaching and learning environment dedicated to the intellectual growth of young artists. It has consistently been rated as an "A" school by the State of Louisiana. NOCCA is the State of Louisiana's conservatory for the arts, and it serves students from across the state. The Academic Studio’s Integrated Humanities program develops in young artist-intellectuals a deep understanding of human history and expressive culture. As part of the Integrated Humanities Department, the successful candidate will teach high school French I and II courses.
The Academic Studio’s French curriculum connects students to French speakers locally and globally and seeks to develop young artists and intellectuals by integrating arts and humanities through the study of the French or Spanish language. We equip students with the language skills necessary to imagine, create, and articulate their own place in the world and to exchange with others.
French courses at NOCCA connect students to Francophone cultures around the world, including Canada, the twenty-six Francophone countries in Africa, the Caribbean, and Louisiana's own Cajun and Creole heritage. Arts are integrated throughout the course through the study of French music, film, cooking, poetry, and more. Communication in the target language is encouraged from day one, and students will learn to read, write, converse, and make presentations in French.
The Academic Studio French Faculty candidate will be able to show a demonstrated commitment to developing highly personalized, rigorous learning experiences for a diverse group of students in a teaching environment characterized by continuous collaboration and growth.
As teachers and mentors to individual students, teachers must value diversity, model integrity, foster equity and demonstrate high ethical standards. As leaders and colleagues, teachers must be able to demonstrate positive interactions and relationships with parents, faculty, administration, and staff.
