Position Summary:
The Assistant Dean will be responsible for working with other school leaders and staff in order to develop and maintain a
culture of learning, support, and safety, where students are well-positioned to excel academically and to achieve at the
highest levels. The Assistant Dean will support efforts to create a calm and safe environment throughout the classrooms
and the rest of the school facilities and will assist school leadership in creating an excellent behavior management
system.


Position Responsibilities:
The responsibilities of the Assistant Dean will be, although not limited to, the following:
School Safety
● Supports and serves on school crisis intervention team
● Supports or leads investigations of incidents that affect student safety and ensures appropriate response
● Assists in training and management of fire drill routines and emergency situations
Behavior Management
● Assists in the development and management of behavior management systems and practices to support
learning and teaching in collaboration with school leaders
● Assists in overseeing a positive rewards (PBIS) system for students
● Assists in management of transportation discipline reports

● Helps manage the detention list
● Communicates effectively with parents about discipline as needed
● Manages student discipline records and reports
● Assists with the suspension process, including reintegration and reporting, under the direction of other school
leaders
● Collaborates with the RTI Coordinator to ensure proper behavior support interventions are provided. This
includes observing, collecting, and analyzing data, and giving teachers feedback
● Communicates and follows up with teachers regarding behavior (as applicable)
● Helps students on suspension receive the appropriate communication and curriculum information (as
applicable)
● Monitors the quality of In-School Intervention (ISI) when directed by school leaders (as applicable)
School Culture
● Builds positive relationships with students, teachers, and parents through tone, responsiveness, and concern
● Ensures school uniform expectations are met by modeling high expectations and ensuring teacher consistency,
monitoring uniforms, and notifying parents as needed
● Manages student arrivals and departures (via school bus or other)
● Supervises calm, orderly transitions and ensures strong staff presence at all transitions
● Monitors cafeteria (lunch, breakfast, after school) and playground/yard for safe, calm, positive school culture
● Manages calm, orderly extended-day time, and ensures strong staff presence during extended-day time
Other duties as assigned


Education & Experience
● Bachelor’s degree (preferred)
● At least 1-2 years’ teaching experience, preferably in a high-need urban school (preferred)
● Demonstrated success working with students in an urban, open admissions school
● Knowledge of current deferral and state guidelines and reporting procedures pertaining to Section 504 and RTI
● Proficiency in student information systems such as SchoolRunner preferred
