Job Title: Child-Specific Paraprofessional

Summary: The Child-Specific Paraprofessional provides one-on-one instructional
and behavioral support to a designated student with special needs under the
direction of certified teachers and related service providers. The role focuses on
assisting the student in achieving individualized education plan (IEP) goals,
maintaining engagement in classroom activities, and fostering independence within
the school environment.
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: To perform this job successfully, an
individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
● Provides individualized assistance to the assigned student to support
participation in academic, behavioral, and social activities.
● Implements accommodations, modifications, and behavior support strategies
outlined in the student’s IEP or behavior intervention plan.
● Assists with classroom organization, transitions, and reinforcement of
instructional content under teacher supervision.
● Supports the student in developing self-help, social, and functional skills to
promote independence.
● Assists with personal care or mobility needs when necessary and appropriate.
● Facilitates the development of students’ critical skills to promote greater
academic and personal independence.
● Encourages and facilitates positive social interactions within the classroom.
● Assists and escorts students to and from various locations and attends to
their individual needs.
● Supports the teacher in communicating student progress to appropriate
parties.
● Monitors student behavior and maintains accurate documentation of care
and support provided.
● Establishes and maintains positive, professional relationships with faculty,
parents/guardians, and students.
● Assists the teacher with the administration, scoring, and recording of
achievement and diagnostic assessments.
● Implements instructional activities and educational programs under the
guidance of the teacher; operates audiovisual equipment and utilizes a
variety of learning materials.
● Collaboratively evaluates student progress with the teacher.
● Assists in preparing the classroom environment, including arranging
materials and designing bulletin boards.
● Operates and maintains classroom equipment used for instructional
purposes.
● Prepares and organizes instructional materials as needed.
● Participates in professional development sessions and in-service meetings as
assigned.
● Adheres to professional expectations, including attendance, ongoing learning,
and teamwork.
● Performs related duties as assigned by the supervisor.
● Maintains compliance with all organizational policies and procedures..
Qualifications, Education and Work Experience:
Education and Experience:
● Must have a minimum of an Associate’s Degree or 48 college credits from an
accredited college or university, or have a passing score on the Praxis Para
Professional examination.
● Preferred Skills and Management Experience
● Previous experience as a Paraprofessional preferred.
● Educational experience preferred.
● Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
● Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working
relationships with students, parents and staff.
● Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion
within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard
accepted practices
