About Hynes-UNO

Hynes-UNO was formed with a corporate partnership with the University of New Orleans. It is a slow-growing campus that will serve students in Kindergarten to eighth grade by 2027. In 2026-2027, Hynes-UNO will open the four middle school classrooms (7th grade). Hynes-UNO is located in a new State-of-the-Art building on UNO's campus (1901 Leon C Simon Drive) next to Ben Franklin High School.

In addition, you consistently do the following:  

  • Provide one-on-one support to a specifically assigned student in accordance with the child’s Individualized Education Plan (IEP) under direction of the teacher. 
  • Work with an individual student or small groups of students to reinforce learning of material and skills initially introduced by the teacher. 
  • Monitor the student’s daily schedule and IEP to ensure a safe and positive learning environment. 
  • Assist in the preparation of instructional materials, arranging the classroom, bulletin boards, or supporting other clerical duties. 
  • Implement the academic program under direction of teachers; operate and care for instructional equipment (audio-visual etc.); use a variety of learning materials.  
  • Assist the teacher in administering, scoring, and recording achievement and diagnostic tests. 
  • Regularly evaluate student progress, working cooperatively with the teacher. 
  • Facilitate positive social interactions between the student and other students in the classroom. 
  • Assist and escort the student with specific physical or behavioral needs through transition within the classroom and other areas while at school or on school-related outings. 
  • Provide proactive de-escalation strategies and techniques to the student assigned to if needed. 
  • Monitor the student’s behavior and maintains documentation of care provided. 
  • Attend to the student’s personal hygiene and care needs. 

Minimum Qualifications 

  • High School Degree
