General Description:
The ideal candidate is an accomplished Media Artist whose work is able to compete and influence on a local, national and international level. They should possess an ability to:
Serve as the ambassador of the Media Arts education program with high school-aged students across Louisiana, with demonstrated experience in team leadership and project-based curriculum building.
Deliver and/or oversee classroom instruction, to include exploration of film, video, audio, and digital media as well as newly evolving practices integrating motion, animation, games, interactivity, and immersive technologies.
Partner with students and parents of all social and economic backgrounds to successfully meet or exceed program objectives.
Fully support NOCCA’s vision of prioritizing an emphasis on the arts as well as academics, with the intent of placing students in top colleges and conservatory programs across the country with as much scholarship/grant money as possible.
Successful applicants will have dedication to a continuing commitment of innovation, integration, and adaptability of ever-evolving technologies into our media arts curriculum.

Faculty at NOCCA are expected to introduce students to a particular discipline with the serious assumption that students will participate in that discipline in the future. NOCCA does not follow a traditional education model as such, but rather an initiation model. An initiation model is a powerful one – it forms the foundation for the seriousness and respect present in faculty/student and peer relationships, which in turn provides a sense of safety for all, extending the degree to which students can be pushed to both understand and produce their best work
Collaborates with colleagues and Director of Arts in curriculum development, planning and programming.
Collaborates with faculty to create a comprehensive class/work schedule for the Media Arts Department.
Sets individual course objectives, plans lessons, organizes, teaches Media Arts as scheduled to enrolled high school-aged students.
Oversees departmental courses, selects books and course supplies
Attends department chair meetings, facilitates department meetings, plans curriculum, coordinates technological integration and advancement and mentors/supervises faculty in all realms of media arts.
Teaches, supports and facilitates all levels of media production from beginner to advanced including screenwriting, cinematography, directing, producing, editing, animation, motion graphics, game design, audio recording and engineering, and overall technological integration with other art forms. In addition, teaches the history, theory, and aesthetics of media arts so that students learn to appreciate the art form, use it in all manners of collaboration and to make informed decisions in their work.
Plans and facilitates collaborative work - master classes, student performances, review & feedback, workshops and auditions, guest artist visits/instruction.
Monitors student progress for improvement and awards grades following the established policies.
Prepares and mentors students to enter media-related / film and /or audio festivals and contests.
Attends NOCCA events, including evenings and weekends for student shows, Celebration Season and Audition Workshops.
Mentors faculty and students and oversees student external activities; including, but not limited to field trips, writing letters of recommendation, assisting with portfolio preparation and facilitation of guest artist visits.
Collaborates with students, parents and counselors to facilitate students’ engagement and successful completion of the program, and preparation for life after NOCCA.
Responsible for department budget oversight; requests and recommends use of funds; and works within Department constraints of fiscal matters as appropriate.
Supervises the general maintenance and deployment of department equipment and supplies as appropriate for class use. Also supervises the installation of Media Arts software on departmental computers.
Collaborates with other faculty in support of curricula improvement to promote students ' success and mastery of course and program competencies.
Participates in professional growth opportunities as both an artist and an instructor and incorporates learning as appropriate.
Fosters community relationships - higher education institutions, non-profit, business, industry partners.
Strong organizational skills and a commitment to excellence.
Knowledge or experience utilizing technology and innovative pedagogy to deliver exceptional teaching and learning desired.
Execute biannual performance evaluations, providing guidance for growth and goal setting.
Reviews and approves department faculty time cards and leave requests.
Uses instructional time effectively to maximize student achievement.
Adheres to board policies, school procedures, and contractual obligations.
Demonstrates professional and ethical conduct as defined by the state law and NOCCA policy.
Contributes to efforts to achieve school-wide and department-specific goals.
Demonstrates an understanding of and respect for all learners and faculty/staff.
Demonstrates consistent leadership in the classroom and commitment to mentorship of the students in the Media Arts department.
Performs other relevant responsibilities as requested.
Strong background in filmmaking, directing, screenwriting or cinematography is preferred.
Possess an expansive approach to Multimedia Arts with a knowledge of the fundamentals, narrative storytelling, and the ability to creatively integrate traditional techniques with emerging technologies and platforms.
Strong understanding of the cinematic language, lighting, and set design as it relates to visual storytelling.
Proficient in Final Draft, Studio Binder, Premier Pro and other ADOBE softwares.
Proficient in on-set lighting and camera operations.
Experience in multi-camera broadcasting.
A personal and professional commitment to creating an atmosphere of quality instruction.
A demonstrated history of working effectively with diverse individuals.
Ability to communicate well, both orally and in writing.
Strong organizational skills and a commitment to excellence.
Knowledge or experience utilizing technology and innovative pedagogy to deliver exceptional teaching and learning desired.
Additional hours are required for Orientation, Open Studio, Auditions, Grade Nights, Parent/Teacher Conferences, Senior Saturday, Homecoming Events, Graduation, Celebrations, Parent Night, Student Shows and Presentations, and Professional Development days.
Leadership experience with professional experience in filmmaking preferred
College Degree in discipline with extensive experience, or equivalency in professional work.
Five or more years work experience of professional and/ or university/ secondary school media arts instruction
