Job Description

The New Orleans Teacher Job Board is seeking dedicated Birth-to-Four Lead Assistant Teachers to join our team of qualified educators supporting early care and education centers across New Orleans. Job Summary:

As an Early Childhood Assistant Teacher, you will support in providing knowledge and instruction to infants, toddlers, and preschoolers, helping them develop their personalities and skills. 

The ideal candidate will be passionate about early childhood education, capable of creating a relationship of mutual trust with students, and adept at organizing a classroom to make learning an easy and meaningful process. Your goal is to cultivate the children's interest in education and be their dedicated ally in their entire learning and development journey. Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the implementation of curriculum and activities by encouraging child participation.

  • Actively engage with children and in classroom activities.

  • Manage the cleanliness and organization of the classroom environment.

  • Maintain communications with parents through informal discussions.

  • Encourage self help and good hygiene among children through behavior modeling and scaffolding.

  • Assist with ensuring a smooth daily transition from home to the classroom.

  • Provide emotional and behavioral support to children by creating a positive environment that supports emotional connections between children and adults and between children and their peers.

  • Manage the classroom to support children’s development by setting clear age-appropriate expectations for behavior.

  • Provide engaged instructional support for learning by using interactions and discussions to promote higher-order thinking skills and cognition.

  • Follow all center policies and state regulations.

  • Maintain a personal professional development plan to ensure continuous quality improvement.



Required Skills & Experience:

  • Preferred CDA Certification - Early Childhood Ancillary Certificate 

  • Preferred Associate’s Degree in Care and Development of Young Children 

  • An understanding of child development

  • Must be at least 18 years of age

  • Must pass the Louisiana Child Care Criminal Background Check

  • Strong oral and written communication and basic computer skills

  • The ability to work well with others ( staff, children, and parents) and to foster a team environment

  • Upon hire, must participate in the Louisiana Pathways Career Development System

 

Job Type: Full-time

 

Pay: 

 $12 - $18 an hour (depending on position and childcare center)

  • Teachers are eligible for $1,894 to $3,787 in School Readiness Tax Credits each year if they are Level 1 Staff or higher in the Louisiana Pathways Career Development Systems and work in an eligible Type III center for at least 6 months of a year for an average of at least 30 hours per week.
