About the Role
The Instructor/Teacher plays a critical role in delivering high-quality classroom instruction that supports student achievement. Responsibilities include preparing effective lessons, assessing student progress, managing classroom materials and behavior, and collaborating with colleagues.
The Instructor reports directly to the Division Head, Assistant Principal, and Principal and is expected to uphold the mission and values of CANO in all interactions with students and families.
Essential Responsibilities
Plan and implement engaging lessons aligned with state standards and CANO’s grade-level expectations.
Collaborate with faculty and administration on curriculum and instructional strategies.
Provide timely and constructive feedback to students and regularly report academic progress.
Build positive and respectful relationships with students to foster an exciting and supportive learning environment.
Accept and incorporate feedback from instructional leaders and participate in coaching and professional development.
Engage in both short- and long-term planning to address individual student needs.
Prepare students for all required local and state assessments.
Implement effective classroom management strategies that promote a safe, focused learning environment.
Stay up to date on educational policies and curriculum guidance from the Louisiana Department of Education.
Maintain accurate student records and comply with all school, district, and legal requirements.
Submit timely reports on student progress and instructional activities.
Participate in meetings with school staff, parents, and the broader community.
Clearly communicate academic goals and expectations to students and families.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to remain in a stationary position for approximately 75% of the workday.
Must be able to walk throughout the school campus to support students and staff.
Occasionally required to move within the office and school building to attend meetings and perform assigned duties.
May need to ascend stairs periodically throughout the day.

Community Academies of New Orleans (“CANO”) is a new charter school management organization created to bring together Esperanza Charter School, Foundation Prep Charter School, and Lafayette Academy Charter School with the ultimate goal of strengthening all three schools. The nonprofit boards that governed Foundation Prep and Choice Foundation voted to establish this partnership in 2019 to benefit from the organizations’ shared values, similar programming, and strong leadership, and set operations of CANO to launch ahead of the 2020-2021 academic year.
