POSITION DETAILSReNEW Schools is seeking a dynamic, experienced Literacy Instructional Coach who can coach elementary teachers towards efficacy and excellence. You deeply understand pedagogical moves to improve teacher performance and faciltiate clear coaching visions, effective debriefs, and strong school-based professional development. Additionally, you demonstrate diagnostic fluency in student mastery and must be well-versed in early literacy, UFLI, Wit and Wisdom, LDOE Guidebooks, or be willing to learn our curriculum. With a strong focus on professional development and individual coaching at both the school and network levels, we are committed to helping you become the best teacher you can be. INSTRUCTIONAL COACH PRIORITIES:The Literacy Instructional Coach will ensure that:Writing is embedded daily across all classrooms2nd grade students are fully prepared for 3rd grade expectationsReading comprehension instruction is rigorous, aligned, and monitored consistentlyTeachers are supported, developed, and held accountable for resultsWHAT YOU’LL DOInstructional LeadershipLead the implementation of high-quality ELA instruction across grades 2–5 or K-2Ensure daily, rigorous reading and writing instruction in all classroomsSupport vertical alignment from 2nd through 5th gradeWriting Instruction (Priority Focus)Co-develop and implement a clear vision for daily student writingBuild teacher capacity around:Writing stamina -Text-based responsesSentence and paragraph developmentEnsure 2nd-grade students are consistently prepared for 3rd-grade writing demandsCoaching & Teacher DevelopmentProvide weekly coaching cycles, including modeling, observation, and feedbackPlan with teachers to ensure strong lesson internalizationDeliver clear, actionable feedback with defined next stepsSupport teachers in implementing small-group and differentiated instructionData-Driven InstructionLead regular data analysis cyclesSupport teachers in tiering students and planning targeted instructionMonitor student progress and adjust plans based on dataReading Comprehension Class Monitoring (Critical Component)Oversee and monitor the effectiveness of reading comprehension instruction across grades 2–5Conduct regular walkthroughs focused on:Student engagement with textQuality of questioning (text-dependent, higher-order)Evidence of written responses to readingEnsure reading comprehension classes include aligned tasks that require students to think, speak, and write about textsTrack trends in student performance and provide targeted support where gaps are identifiedSystems & AccountabilityMonitor implementation of non-negotiables (e.g., daily writing, use of text evidence)Support grade-level teams in maintaining accountability for student outcomes HIRING TASK POSSIBILITIES:Part 1: Data Analysis + Writing-Driven Action PlanUse the process we did during IT with the 3rd-grade lessonPart 2: Coaching in ActionScenarioYou observe a classroom where:Students read a passage but do not write about itWriting is optional or minimalThere is no modeling of responsesStudents primarily give verbal answersYour TaskWrite a coaching response that includes:One affirming statementTwo clear “glows and grows”One specific writing expectation to be implemented within 48 hoursYour response should reflect how you would communicate in a real coaching conversation.WHAT YOU BRINGBachelor's degree required; Master's level degree preferredAt least five years of effective teaching experienceAt least one year of successful instructional coaching experience. FLSA Classification: ExemptWHAT WE OFFERAt ReNEW, we believe our people are the key to our students’ success.
