Summary: Visual Arts Teacher is responsible for planning and delivering a comprehensive
visual arts program that fosters creativity, self-expression, critical thinking, and an
appreciation for the arts among elementary-aged students. The teacher creates a nurturing,
engaging, and developmentally appropriate learning environment where students explore a
variety of artistic media and techniques while developing foundational artistic skills and
confidence. The Visual Arts Teacher collaborates with classroom teachers, families, and
community partners to integrate the arts into the broader educational experience and
support the mission and values of the school.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Instruction and Curriculum
● Develops and implements a standards-based elementary visual arts curriculum
aligned with state and local educational standards

● Plans and delivers engaging, age-appropriate lessons that encourage creativity,
artistic exploration, and skill development
● Teaches foundational visual arts concepts, techniques, and processes through
various media, including drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, mixed media,
digital art, and crafts
● Differentiates instruction to meet the diverse learning styles, abilities, and
developmental needs of elementary students
● Integrates art history, multicultural perspectives, and contemporary artistic
practices into instruction
● Foster students' understanding of the elements and principles of art through
hands-on learning experiences
● Utilizes formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress and
inform instructional decisions
● Incorporates technology and digital tools to enhance artistic learning and creative
expression
● Maintains accurate records of student achievement and communicate student
progress to families and school personnel
Classroom Management and Student Engagement
● Establishes and maintains a safe, positive, inclusive, and developmentally
appropriate learning environment
● Promotes positive behavior and reinforce school-wide expectations for student
conduct
● Teaches and enforce proper use, care, and safety procedures for art materials,
tools, and equipment
● Encourages curiosity, imagination, collaboration, and creative problem-solving
● Fosters student confidence by celebrating individual artistic growth and
achievement; and
● Engages students in meaningful discussions about artwork, artistic processes, and
self-reflection
Arts Programming and School Culture
● Organizes and coordinates student art displays, exhibitions, showcases, and
school-wide arts events
● Creates opportunities for students to share and celebrate their artwork with peers,
families, and the broader school community
● Displays student artwork throughout the school to promote pride, creativity, and
artistic achievement
● Collaborates with classroom teachers to integrate visual arts into interdisciplinary
and project-based learning experiences
● Supports school-wide celebrations, performances, and special events through
artistic contributions and displays; and
● Participates in initiatives that promote arts education and cultural enrichment
within the school community
Collaboration and Family Engagement
● Builds positive relationships with students, families, and staff
● Communicates effectively with families regarding student progress, achievements,
and classroom activities
● Collaborates with teachers, instructional coaches, administrators, and support
staff to enhance student learning outcomes

● Participates in parent conferences, family engagement events, and school activities
as requested; and
● Establishes partnerships with local artists, museums, cultural organizations, and
community groups when appropriate
Professional Responsibilities
● Attends faculty meetings, professional development activities, and school functions
● Stays informed about current trends, instructional strategies, and best practices in
elementary visual arts education
● Maintains inventory, organization, and budget records for art supplies, materials,
and equipment
● Ensures the art classroom and storage areas remain clean, organized, and safe
● Adheres to all school policies, procedures, and professional standards
● Maintains compliance with all company policies and procedures; and
● Performs such other duties as may be required and/or assigned by administrators
Special Education Responsibilities:
● Special Education Teachers will maintain up-to-date and accurate special
education records and will schedule and conduct IEP conferences according to state
guidelines
● Regular Education Teachers will implement accommodations and/or special needs
plans outlined on plans such 504 & 1508; and
● Upgrade teaching methodologies and use of technology in line with current
research, trends and practices in education
Qualifications, Education and Work Experience:
Required:
● Minimum of bachelor’s degree;
● Experience teaching theatre, drama, creative drama, performing arts, or related arts
education to children
Preferred:
● LA Teacher Certification
● Excellent verbal and written communication skills
● Previous experience teaching elementary visual arts preferred.
● Experience working with diverse student populations preferred.
● Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a
positive attitude; and
● Ability to work independently to carry out assignments and complete within
parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines and standard accepted
practices
Must have the capacity to meet the complex mental, emotional and physical
demands of the job which include the ability to effectively:
