Employment Type: Contract position with potential for Full-Time | Support Staff Position

Position Overview

Rooted School is seeking a student-centered Special Education Paraprofessional to support students with disabilities in grades 9–12 in accessing rigorous instruction and achieving their individualized education program (IEP) goals. Working under the direction of the Special Education Teacher and school leadership, the paraprofessional provides instructional, behavioral, and organizational support that promotes student independence, inclusion, and success in our Early College Academy.

Key Responsibilities

Instructional Responsibilities

·       Provide small-group and one-on-one instructional support under the direction of the Special Education Teacher.

·       Implement accommodations and modifications outlined in students' IEPs.

·       Support students in general education and special education settings to ensure access to grade-level curriculum.

·       Reinforce academic skills, organization, executive functioning, and study habits.

·       Assist with classroom management using restorative and positive behavior supports.

·       Collect data on student progress, behavior, and IEP goals as assigned.

·       Support students during assessments while following approved testing accommodations.

·       Promote student independence and self-advocacy.

Student Support

·       Build positive, trusting relationships with students and families.

·       Assist with supervision during transitions, lunch, arrival, dismissal, and school activities.

·       Support students in developing self-regulation, communication, and social skills.

·       Maintain confidentiality of all student records and information.

Collaboration and Leadership

·       Collaborate closely with Special Education Teachers, general education teachers, related service providers, and school leaders.

·       Participate in professional development and team meetings.

·       Contribute to a positive school culture rooted in high expectations, restorative practices, and mutual respect.

Required Qualifications

·       High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor's degree preferred.

·       Experience working with children or adolescents, preferably students with disabilities.

·       Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.

·       Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism.

Preferred Qualifications

·       Experience supporting students with IEPs in a secondary school setting.

·       Coursework in education, psychology, social work, or a related field.

·       Experience with restorative practices, project-based learning, or inclusive classrooms.

·       Bilingual (Spanish or Vietnamese) is a plus.
